I usually do apple butter but I have plenty left from last year. I am doing apple sauce in the crockpot though.

@diognese What kind of apples do you use to make apple butter?

Apple butter is a foreign substance up here. I've done apple sauce before but ... would someone mind sharing their apple butter recipe?

Peel, core and cut up into chunks.....place in crock pot to the top. Cover & cook on low, stirring occasionaly. Add sugar & cinnamon to tase, we use a lot cause I like cinnamon. Sometimes we add nutmeg.
Pack into hot jars and hot water bath for about 10 minutes.

I did apples last year.

I peeled and cored them, then cut them into quarters. Soaked them in a lemon water solution(or use fruit fresh), then cooked them for a few minutes to soften them up. Fill the jars and add your sugar syrup. There is a recipe in the Ball Blue Book or on the USDA Food Presevation website, cant remember which.

They're pretty good with some cottage cheese, but no one else in the family likes them but me so it's just applesauce this year.

Thats similar to the way I do it. I peel them and quarter them soak them in salt water. Rinse, heat them until soft and add sugar. I then pack them in hot jars.

When I am ready to eat them I simply put them in a pan in the oven, sprinkle with red devil cinnamon candies and cover with foil bake at 350 until hot.

I eat them with homemade biscuits for breakfast or as an additional side during supper.
