Re: Canning Apples
I did apples last year.
I peeled and cored them, then cut them into quarters. Soaked them in a lemon water solution(or use fruit fresh), then cooked them for a few minutes to soften them up. Fill the jars and add your sugar syrup. There is a recipe in the Ball Blue Book or on the USDA Food Presevation website, cant remember which. They're pretty good with some cottage cheese, but no one else in the family likes them but me so it's just applesauce this year. |
Re: Canning Apples
Thats similar to the way I do it. I peel them and quarter them soak them in salt water. Rinse, heat them until soft and add sugar. I then pack them in hot jars.
When I am ready to eat them I simply put them in a pan in the oven, sprinkle with red devil cinnamon candies and cover with foil bake at 350 until hot. I eat them with homemade biscuits for breakfast or as an additional side during supper. |
